Stotfold Winter Series Rnd 4

Stotfold Winter Series Rnd 4

Sunday 20th February

Stotfold model car club hosted the 4th round of there very popular winter series. The all weather artificial grass track is a popular venue on the national calender, many use the winter series for practice for such meetings.
When we arrived the track was wet from the heavy rain leading up to the event, this was to stay this way throughout the event.

The ever growing Kyosho team was in attendance with John Spencer, Tony Evdoka, Ian Edwards all running in 2 & 4wd.
As has been the case for most of the team through the winter, we have been running various mid motored version's of the RB5. Never quite finding a liking to what was available, a few months ago a new conversion hit the street.
Kevin Lee and John Spencer ran prototype version's of the car and found it to be very impressive. Since then the car has exploded on the Europe R/C scene, with at least 4 Vega RB5 SP2's at the last two meetings i have attended, clearly shows signs it is gaining popularity!!

In 4wd the team are running the proven ZX5 FS2, a very easy car to work with.

The racing...........

2wd:

With the winter series running Schumacher mini spikes only everyone was able to make a simple decision, wet track - Green mini's!!
Qualifying went quite well for the team and we managed to place 2 cars in the A final, John Spencer qualified 2nd and Tony Evdoka 9th. With two more Vega SP2's in the B final it was a good showing all round.
The final was quite scrappy and a poor start from Spencer put him at the back and chasing the rest, Evdoka made a good start and came through to end up 2nd after the 5 minutes.

Final Positions:
1st Kit Jones Losi CR2
2nd Tony Evdoka Vega RB5 SP2
3rd Matt Owen Cougar SV

4wd:

This class was going to be between 3 drivers, Lloyd Storey, John Spencer and Euro A finalist Kevin Lee. Lloyd Storey needed a win to wrap up the series, with both John Spencer and Kevin Lee needing a win to have a chance in the final round!!
With all 3 drivers taking a round each it was down to the wire to decide who took the number 1 spot on the grid, this went to Lloyd Storey who had 2 points, Kevin Lee and John Spencer were tied on 3 points with the Team Xtreme driver taking it on fastest time.
Into the finals and it was going to be between the front 3 drivers, Spencer made a ballistic start which caused Kevin Lee to try and cover the line, this resulted in the X11 driver making an error. Spencer collected Kev but was lucky enough to come through in second place, Lloyd Storey had already opened a slight gap from this. With the fast charging Kev Lee coming through the field he was soon on Spencer's tail, he worked his way past and set about catching the leader. Spencer stepped up the pace and was soon pushing the FS2... eventually Kevin Lee made an error and Spencer was through into 2nd. At this point all 3 drivers were together. Going into the last lap and it was all to play for, Storey kept it clean to take the win and the series, Spencer was 1.5sec behind and Kevin Lee crossed the line in third.
Once again the FS2 was proving to be a match for the current crop of cars around, with more time and hopefully some dry weather results will get even better.

Final Positions:
1st Lloyd Storey Cat SX2
2nd John Spencer Kyosho FS2
3rd Kevin Lee Team Xtreme X11
4th Ian Edwards Kyosho FS
